I love a good sunset as much as the next person. I’ve also seen some incredible sunsets, both in my hometown, and in many countries around the world. Last summer, I spent 6 weeks in East and South Africa. I saw incredible wild animals, relaxed on pristine beaches, and discovered some excellent new wine.
I also found some amazing places to see an incredible African sunset!
Next time you find yourself on the continent, consider giving yourself the gift of a perfect, stunning sunset.
Because the only thing better than a sunset picture? A sunset picture with a train in it…especially if you love trains as much as I do…
This is one of my favourite sunset photos in the Serengeti. The entire sky burned orange as the jeep bumped its way back to the hotel. It was such a magical end to the day!
After a long, very dusty, driving day through Botswana and Namibia, the evening’s campsite was located on the Cubango River.
If you have the time, and the money, to do so, make sure you book a safari that includes some time in the Ngorongoro Crater. This is a protected area in Tanzania, and there are time limits on your time spent in the park.
I stayed at an Airbnb in the Waterkant area in Cape Town. While touristy, it featured an amazing roof-top patio overlooking the waterfront. Ideal for sunset viewing!
The only thing better than an African Safari? Taking a few days to relax afterwards in Zanzibar. The island is home to some of the most stunning, and best of all, deserted, beaches. Whats better than a beach all to yourself? Having said beach all to yourself at sunset.
Very few of these are difficult to get to. Cape Town? Victoria Falls? Serengeti? If you’re going to Africa, you’ll probably be in the neighbourhood. Get yourself a good view of the sunset and prepare to be impressed!
