Not everyone in Africa is poor, not every city is covered in dust (though you will be, if your adventure includes a Serengeti Safari). There are as many stereotypes about travel in Africa as there are dialects of languages on the continent. (FYI: it’s a lot…)
But before I spent seven weeks exploring the continent, I didn’t really comprehend just how beautiful it was.
I decided, for this post, to feature East-Africa countries, because they are definitely underrepresented in favour of some of the more visited countries.
Check out these shots to convince you to visit and explore even just a piece of this massive and beautiful continent!
The sunsets are incredible in Tanzania.

One word. Safari. No matter which country or park you visit, you will have amazing experiences and encounters with these incredible wild animals.
Whether you visit the Masaai Mara, the Serengeti or one of hundreds of smaller parks, both private and public, you will be sure to see something amazing!
Visit the bushmen in Botswana. The San people live a traditional lifestyle and are most well-known for their traditional language, which includes a variety of tongue-clicks and clacks.
Ok, so Victoria Falls is probably not exactly unheard of and un-visited. But it’s well-worth a visit if you’re in Zimbabwe or Zambia.
Before you get to the Victoria Falls, be sure to check out the Zambezi river.
If you’re half as big a train fan as I am, consider taking the Tazara train across Tanzania and Zambia. Wake up to stunning scenery across rural Tanzania.
Get yourself to the Okavango Delta. It’s one of the worlds largest wildernesses. While you’re there, be sure to ride in the local Mokoro boats.
The skies in East-Africa are ideal for viewing the stars. Minimal light pollution in rural communities, and clear skies, ensure that you can see some truly spectacular night skies!
Public beaches are kept in pristine condition. I don’t know how, but in the dozens of beaches I saw in half a dozen countries, I never saw a beach littered with garbage.
Did you know that South Africa has its own breed of penguin? Boulders Beach in Simonstown, South Africa, is the only place in the world where you can see the South African penguin!
Whether you ultimately travel to Africa to see the animals, the coastal beauty, or to help your fellow human beings, know that you can’t leave without seeing the stunning beauty of the continent!
